The aim of the course was to introduce this important aspect of fracture treatment and deformity correction to the young orthopedic surgeons of North India & refreshing concepts of external fixation system & exposing them to newer versions of External fixation devices.

The course was conducted by eminent faculty which included Dr. Mangal Parihar from Mumbai, Dr. Manish Shah from Ahmedabad, Dr. Ajay Abrol from Amritsar and Dr. Manish Dhavan from Delhi. The course was well attended by 102 delegates, who come from Delhi, Maharashtra, U.P., Haryana, Punjab, Bihar, J & K & Uttaranchal Pradesh. Three Ex-President of IOA, Prof. Dr. P. S. Maini, Dr. O.N. Nagi and Dr. S. P. Mandal graced the workshop and addressed the delegates. They complimented efforts by SHPOPL in arranging a wonderful workshop and hoped that this becomes an annual feature.

The Course covered interactive sessions on various aspects of the use of Ilizarov Ring fixator and the Rail Fixator System, including the history of development of these Fixators, indications for use, Bio-mechanics, Instrumentation, Application in various situation, post operative care & complications. The course permitted all the participants to handle the fixator and use them on saw bones in the hands on workshop and could also see it being used in live surgery performed during the course. The newly launched product in the Indian market, Hexapod, which offers computer assisted solution for deformity correction, in conjunction with Ring Fixator, was also introduced to the delegates by Dr. Mangal Parihar.

A gala banquet was arranged at India Habitat Center where the delegates had a good informal exchange with the course faculty. Dr. Manish Dhavan as an organizing secretary deserves special credit for the successful organization of the said event.
