A basic course on External fixation system was successfully conducted by SHPOPL at National Orthopedic Hospital, Dala, Kano in Nigeria. The aim of the course was to introduce this important aspect of fracture treatment and deformity correction to the young orthopedic surgeons of Nigeria & exposing them to newer versions of External fixation devices.

Dr. Mangal Parihar, an eminent surgeon from Mumbai conducted the course. The course was well attended by 52 delegates from all over Nigeria. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Abubakar-Medical Director NOH & was organized by Dr. Salihu-Director training, NOH. They complimented efforts by SHPOPL in arranging a wonderful workshop and hoped to have such quality events more often.

The Course covered interactive sessions on various aspects of the use of Ilizarov Ring fixator and the Rail Fixator System, including the history of development of these Fixators, indications for use, Bio-mechanics, Instrumentation, Application in various situation, post operative care & complications. The course permitted all the participants to handle the fixator and use them on saw bones in the hands on workshop and could also see it being used in live surgery performed during the course.  This live surgery was done by Dr. Mangal Parihar & was assisted by Dr. Isa Nuriddin, an eminent Orthopedic Surgeon from NOH, Kano.

The course received an overwhelming response from participants & very positive feedback was noted from those attended.

# SHPOPL conducts such course in memory of Late Shri H.D. Pitkar, who founded SHPOPL& was known and respected for his contribution to Orthopedic implant manufacturing in India in as early as 1960.
